My '71 convertible has two seams, between the 1/4panels and the and flat panel just in front of the trunk, just behind the convertible top. The paint is cracking in these two seams and I want to repair it. Should I clean out all the old seamsealer and replace it with new or should I have the panels welded together, then grinded down to remove the seams all together. Will that stop the paint cracking problem ???

Just curious...
Is the transition from the quarter panels to the (I'll call it a) header panel smooth or does it contain indentions/grooves like a coupe? I've seen them both ways (even at CB)and wondered which way was 'correct'. Mine are smooth and also cracked there as well. When I repair, I want the same advice.

Mine has a side on each end of the header panel, between it and the portion of the 1/4panel that comes up onto the flat surface forward from the truck deck. I think they came from the factory with these seams but over the years people have been removing them......

Mine has lead in those seams, I am assuming factory? (It's flush not grooved) and it still has a hairline crack. I don't think I have ever seen one that wasn't cracked?
Put the top down and go for a cruise, you'll forget all about em. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Seriously I think it is a stress point in the body and I don't know how you will ever eliminate it completely. Anybody Else?
