My 64 has been giving me some starting problems I thought they were just from the car sitting for a while but today I drove it 70 miles to work (volt gauge read good all the way) and still have the same problem. The car will start cold no problem but if I have to shut her down it wont barely turn over like the bat is dead. I have a battery mounted in the trunk which runs up to a ford solenoid mounted on the fender well down to the starter. I have added the solenoid in the last year which really helped my hot starting issues from before, now this new problem is similar but I cant understand what is causing it. I am thinking the starter is going out on me does that sound about right? I had this first happen when I went to the store shut it down and came out 5 minutes later and the car wouldnt start. I got a person to give me a jump but it wouldnt work, after about a half hour of sitting and another jump she fired right up.

After having the same problem with my 454 with battery in the trunk, I broke down and bought the mini starter that jegs has on sale. Turns over great now hot or cold. You could check the engine and battery ground, make sure wire to the front is big enough. Its sounds like heat soak or inital timing too high. Mark

I thought it might have been the timing too but I messed with it and still have the same problem, when I first fire it up it turns over strong.
