Weeeeeeelllllll, I know it's Ford related, but the S.A.M. school competed at the World Ford Challenge this past weekend. We run a ' 95 Cobra in Hot Street piloted by Pat Topolinski. And guess what? S.A.M. brings home top honors in the class by running an 8.92 in the finals. (8.91 is low E.T. for the car, I believe)
The car is a 351W-based 396cid stroker. It's actually about 44 cid under the maximum, so you know it's making some power to compete (and win) in the class.
I wasn't able to attend and I use the term "we" loosely at the moment, as I just finished orientation and today moved into Jud Massengill's class for the next 8 months. I haven't turned a wrench on the car, as I've just been introduced to the block machines. Not sure when I'll be up to speed to start helping out the race program, but I'm itching to be a real part of it.
Anyway, the guys came back and said that everyone at the Challenge kept coming up to ask, "where do you guys get your head work done". No one believed that the school does all their own stuff, including the heads. They thought we just assemble engines. Not sure what they thought the term "machinists" meant in the school's title. People also couldn't believe that they got nailed by a bunch of students. :D
Just thought I would share. There should be alot of publicity coming our way very soon, as Primedia was supposed to be all over it.
