: Installing Bumpers
jaldini May 22nd, 00, 11:58 AM Anyone hae an idea of how I can install the frnt and rear bumper on my 69 chevelle by myself? I need to get them on in the next day or two, and will not have anyone to help.
It was easy removing them, but don't think it will be as easy putting them back on. Any ideas? Thanks!
mr409 May 22nd, 00, 3:07 PM I like doing things by myself too. I hate asking for help.
I use my floor jack to help. Put the jack under the center of the bumper and lift it up to the correct height. Then just fanagle it around until you get the bolts in.
If you don't have a big floor jack, you could use some blocks that are the correct height.

jaldini May 22nd, 00, 3:18 PM Bob,
I thought about doing that, but the bottom edge of the bumper is not very flat. I was thinking about using a jack stand with some sort of block, to support one side, and then attach 1 side at a time. Hopefully I can get my lazy brother (who knows NOTHING about cars) to just come over and hold it in place, while I do the wrenching.
Thanks!

Dustin69 May 22nd, 00, 6:50 PM One tip might be attaching masking tape on the sharp edges to reduce the chance of chipping the paint. Then I would get your lazy brother to help, have him put his fingers between the end of the bumper and paint to reduce chipping also.
jaldini May 22nd, 00, 11:14 PM Whew! Was able to get it done!! Front bumper was easy to do using jack stands to support bumper. The brackets slide in nice and tight, and I was able to just tighten one side at a time.
Rear bumper was a little more work, but using the jack stands was a big help, was able to get my wife to help line it up.
Thanks for the help!!
Tony
glad you got it done. heres how i did it by myself. i used 2 original bumber jacks. i put the bumper on the jacks, slid them under and jacked them up until i could get a bolt on each side in. it was easy,
DaleP Mar 25th, 02, 11:00 AM Does one assemble the brackets on the bumper and then install/adjust the brackets to the frame? I did it the other way around and am having a heck of a time getting the bolt holes to line up.

"..you did you take the washer off, right?"
sxtysix Mar 25th, 02, 12:29 PM Yep, DaleP, you're doing it in reverse order.
First brackets on bumper, then brackets to frame.
