I started the day by going to the car wash to wash my truck and give the Vic Jr. a good washing to remove all the shavings from the gasket match, decided to cruise thru the local Chevy dealer to see if they had any work trucks with a V8 automatic, found a couple and 4 hrs later, came home with a new pickup, regular cab, long bed, 4800(294 cubes)/automatic,locking 3.23 rearend, slightly less power than the '98 5.7 but supposed to be capable of towing 6500 lbs, got the 5yr 100k bumper to bumper warranty too, just incase the engine and trans arent up to towing almost 6000lbs of Chevelle and trailer. The '98 had 171k on it, served me well, hope this one lasts just as long. Anyway, I'll get the intake on tomorrow and should everything go okay, I'll get some passes in at the 1/4 mile track next sunday, my local track that I run points at is closed next weekend getting ready for the Memorial Day bash. Oh yeah, anyone ever found a pair of diagonal cutters under the lifter valley splash pan,(havent got ahold of the builder yet) they didnt appear to have done any damage, just pinned under the splash pan, but talk about a suprise. So I'll have a report a week from tomorrow on what was accomplished with the intake swap ;)

You found a tool laying in the lifter valley of your new motor?!!!!!!!!! That is like those stories of the surgeons leaving scalpels in a patient after an operation.

Bob,

Congratulations on the new pick-up.

That's a little scary finding tools in a new motor :(

I bet your builder is looking all over for those cutters, Robert.

No wonder your builder told you he would buy the intake back if it didn't work...he finally figured out where he left the cutters and didn't want to flat out ask you to take the intake off to get them back:clonk: :D

Robert,

A new truck is better than any track day, IMO. Congrats!

Read somewhere that diagonal cutters in the lifter valley are worth .2 ...I'd leave 'em there. ;)
Love to be there when you present them back to the engine builder...

Even the best of surgeons have left tools in their patients, dark handles and dark metal, I can see how they were missed, but jeez  just glad they were pinned between the valley pan and the screen and didnt move around and really mess things up. Well, the intake is on and according to the butt dyno, I havent lost a thing anywhere, we'll find out next sunday, hard to guesstimate bottom end when its just lights the slicks up and goes sideways down the street :D Darn Bill, now I have to pull the intake off and put the cutters back in :)

Saw a report on CNN last night about a man somewhere in southwest MO being admitted to the hospital for rectal problems stemming from the insertion of a foreign object that resembled "wire cutters". Know anything about that Bob? :p :D
