Have to see the documents but doubt it.There was one on ebay about a month ago claiming the same thing and its documents were very suspicious.Might be the same car.

Doesn't look like the correct interior or grill. Wonder if he will reveal the vin ? I could compare it to mine. Might have to take a ride over to look at it, its pretty close to me.

I have a picture from January 2001 of a Heavy Chevy that was claimed to be the first. The other pics & details are lost but I recall that it was from the original elderly owners in Pasadena. It has faded, oxidized lime green paint (supposedly original) with deteriating white stripes. It had a 350 2-barrel, TH350, ps & front disks, plus bumper guards. No air! A link to it was posted here about 4 years ago after a discusion. There was discussion about the build date and as I recall it was very possibly the first. Who knows?
Maybe I can find a copy of the scan & post it.

Documented with the original build sheet, stating "HEAVY CHEV PILOT ORDER" and "1st YF3", this car is a solid foundation for a restoration. A Southern

California car with every original option intact. Matching # 350 engine, TH350, 10 bolt. Mostly original paint and decals, very little rust. New 7 and 8" rallys, new

BFG radials. Original license plates and copy of original title. One owner car from 1971 to 1999 by little old lady (and husband) in Pasadena, no lie. Registration

paid through late 2001. Runs and drives well, and is reliable. 98% factory stock mechanically. PS, Power discs, no a/c. Buyer responsible for transportation. Vehicle

is sold "as is" with no warranty. It's authenticity as advertised is guaranteed. Bank check or cash only. Personal inspections welcomed. Will email pics upon request

My husband and I have a 1971 Heavy Chevy that my parents bought for me when I graduated high school in 1971. It is/was blue with a white painted) top. Originally, it had no carpet and no power brakes. We have kept it up through the years and it has been painted, etc.,. Currently, it does not have hood pins (I'd prefer it did, but my husband doesn't). We have all of the original paper work; but, because I was underage, the original title was in my father's name. Other than him, no one else has "owned" it.

I have my doubts about the "first" Heavy Chevy having that hand-written number on it. Looks bogus to me. I will check my vin number and see what I can conclude.

Why would anyone even care if a car is the first one built or the three hundred and fifty first one built anyway?

I think that the 'first' of any of these cars is a selling point, I have seen a few ad's stating that is was a first, so I guess it is all about the money! And I have seen the other end, last blah blah blah, so it must be worth more, right? It would not matter to me, but people must care about that -

okay since i do alot on 300 Series cars a Heavy Chevy is basically a base model of Chevelle known as the 300 Deluxe or the Standard Chevelle, but with a twist it has heavy duty equipment that usually came on SS cars, they have sporty strips down the sides, and very unique interiors because they are a 300 Series model i have info on my site i think about them i cant remember whats on there i have to do some updating haha but here www.freewebs.com/chevelle300 (http://www.freewebs.com/chevelle300) there ya go

I bid on the Green car when it was on e-bay it doesn't mean it is the first one however !! Just the first one for that plant location. I have the handwritten buildsheet for Baltimore preproduction car 2 1/2 71 malibu 400 with every SS option in a malibu body with the note on the build sheet pull at end of line june of 70 . I tried everything to save it from the crusher in 83 but couldn't get it saved all I have is the build sheet !!!! It was a neat car hucaps F-41 3:31 disc, Th400 tach, etc. So don't discount it until it checked out in Full !!!!

I think it matters if it was the first, and, there had to be a "first" at each plant. Mine was from the Arlington, Texas factory and has a large VIN number. But, the VIN refers to the chevelle production, not specifically the Heavy Chevy production. How would one know?

The only way to tell would be on the Build Sheet. There should be a YF3 option listed. I had a Heavy too but couldn't verify it, other than the SS hood, SS dash, 4 spd, rubber floor matt and the ugly Rally rims. The car was just too far gone so I stripped it and gave it to some guy that needed it for the dirt track.

Thanks....I built a small buidling behind my office to keep the Chevelles dry & clean. The 69 rag is parked in front of the HC and the blue project is a 70 LS5 454.

Telll me about your Heavy Chevy!

Nice! I cloned my Malibu into a HC when I had it painted in '90. There was a wrecked one in high school auto shop, that was the only way I even knew they existed. Mine started life as a 350-2bbl-TH-350-10 bolt. I bought a ElCamino parts car and it had the SS rims, 12 bolt, console shift. I have a set of bucket seats to re-do next. Mike

Looks great Don! I don't think too many are left, I have only seen two real HC'S , and one had been driven into a moving train(kid in high school, t-boned a train at about 80, steering wheel was bent under into the bench seat..walked away..lucky drunk!), the other was sitting at a house near a main road, green w/ white stripes, bad paint, but a real HC. From what I read, most were driven hard and put away wet, people think that I made up the name on mine, so I guess not to many know what they are.

I've got a real one...with buildsheet. Missing a few original parts/details like door panels etc and has a few creature comforts
added like carpet and all vinyl seats, but it's REAL :D

And it needs a new home too:

I joined this site solely to respond to this thread about the first HC. I was high bidder on the car when on Ebay (HTPainter). I did not meet reserve, but contacted the seller and bought it out of the auction. I restored the car to what I was pleased to drive. I couldn't deal with the green/green combo so I painted it blue with black interior. The 300 interior was not available at the time so I installed standard Chevelle interior. The tank sticker was perfectly intact and one thing I had never seen was an option code circled in pencil. There was a drawn line from that circle to a caption that stated "pilot order 1st YF3". All of this was hand printed in pencil. I can't find the add, but I hope maybe this brings some clarity to the discussion. I still have the original wheels for that car. I ran across this site while doing a search for the car. If it's whereabouts are known, I'd like to where it is. I sold at Carlisle Pa to Old Town Motors in MD.

Wouldn't be VIN 134371L139845 by chance? Don't know where it is but I have photos from 2006 of a 43 43 car redone in blue w/black Malibu interior parts. The build sheet on this one has in printed lettering "HEAVY CHEVY PILOT ORDER" then to the side is written in pencil , "1ST YF3."

I'm curious though, isn't it possible each plant may have notated the "1ST" of anything or Pilot car for their plant? If that be the case, who can really say which is the first off the assembly line?

May 28th, 11, 10:58 PM
I'll see if I have any records with the vin. You may be right about each plant having their first of any model. I enjoyed the car but was surprised by the fact that most Chevelle guys scoffed at the Heavys. I would really like to buy it back.
