Anyone had a problem with rust out at the bottom of the cowl where the front fender bolts up (2 bolts) it is totally ate up. I have a donor car and was wondering how hard this to fix? 71 Chevelle coupe. Thanks for the help, Lloyd.

Since no one see's this area normally, this is a good place to cut a patch from the donor car and learn while welding it in. There is a couple sites where I have seen the exact same repair being done.

Since you have a donor car you are 1/2 way there already.

More importantly, how is the bottom of the fender and the brace welded to the rear of the fender? That is where mine were the most damaged. The cowl was solid.

Cowl damage is quite common for cars that were parked outside a lot inder trees. Repairing that are is no different than any other. Take pictures before you start, measure, cut and weld in new metal.

I believe their account is gigem, but they had to do this to their car.

Mine is pretty solid just surface rust, so I am pretty happy with that... Although my car had an accident in it's previous life and there is a large dent in the drivers side cowl area that'll have to be pulled out. :(

I think you should make patches, unless you have access to a totally rust free donor...

Thanks for the info. The bottom of the fender is ok . The problem is the brace that the 2 bolts are threaded into this is totally ate up all the way thru the kick panel. But since I have a donor this may not be to bad of a fix. Thx's again Lloyd.

I have the same issue. The brace that the 2 bolts need to be attached to at the bottom of the fender are completely rotted.

Does anyone know if there is a patch piece or repair part for this brace?

Or, if anyone has figured out how to fabricate their own, can you please supply me with a picture?

Mike,

After looking at the quality of those fabricated cowl pieces, why don't you consider making rear window back glass area corners for the 70-72 Chevelles that all seem to have that problem. Nobody make them pre- made that I am aware of and there is definitely a need for them in the market.

How many do you need?

For the rear window opening do you mean the top or bottom? Do you want the pinch weld that is part of the roof skin? or part of the rear body panel?

Edit: Just looking through my Chevelle restoration pics and realized what you mean. I fixed it on this car in 2 parts that were butwelded togeather. I may be able to make it in one piece, No primises though since it is a very sharp bend. Ill give it a shot and post up some pics.
