I usually use quality can spray paint from Autozone to paint small -medium parts semi gloss black. I have a nice compresser and paint gun and would like to use something more scratch or better resistant to the elements. What would i buy at a good paint store?

Epoxy primer and urethane single stage paint would probably be the best IMO

I use Sherwin-Williams Acrylic Enamel with a flatting agent, hardener and reducer. You can buy it mixed with the flattener in it (60%) then reduce it and add hardener as you use it. Much more scratch resistant than spray cans. Cleaning/dusting can scratch spray can paint if you rub too hard.

I use black epoxy primer in my spray gun for all of my black painted parts needs.

In the engine compartment, you can't beat epoxy primer protection. It resist oil and gas stains and is very chip resistant.

Does the epoxy primer come in a semi gloss?

Have you considerd using powder coating at all? It would provide you with a beautiful finish, as well as the durability you're after.

Just another option. smile.gif
