Just finished patch work and assembly of door and window components...now ready to mount the door but I'm not sure what the strategy should be. Right now the door jamb and hinges have spray-bomb primer, and I am considering applying a little POR to where the hinges mount before assembly. I just want to make sure I am ready so when it comes time to paint I'm not taking the whole car apart again!

Do the hinges/jamb need real paint before I assemble them? I haven't reached the point where I have a color picked out, but I can bomb them with something I have laying around if necessary.

Concerning the mating surface between the hinge and the door jam (hinge pillar), I just read a factory GM body service manual recently that told me the factory used a glazing putty on this mating surface to prevent water from getting in between and rusting the bolt threads. 3M sells a "Bedding and Glazing Putty" which always stays soft and plyable after some years. Might be a better idea to use this around the bolts and a thin layer on the hinge face before bolting up door to hinge pillar.
