when you are trying to lose some e.t. while bracket racing, what is the proper way to do this?
lay off the throttle, or use your brakes?
don't know what other section i should post this in, so move it if needed.
thanks

Do you mean at the finish line in order to keep from breaking out?
Or do you mean in general, maybe because you will go under the limit for no roll bar or somethng like that?

As far as finish line driving goes, I keep the gas pedal matted and hit the binders with the other foot. No loss of RPM that way.

i'm talking about at the finish line to avoid breaking out.
currently i just adjust my throttle to keep just enough infront of the other car if i am ahead by a big margin, and it has worked fine for me in the past. I am just wondering if this will cause any harm to the motor or driveline, and if the braking method is more effecient or safer?
thanks

No, Just easing out of the gas is the safest way to scrub off a little E.T. Standing on the brakes upsets the cars balance and if you lock up the brakes you could potentially lose control of the car. This practice has been banned by some tracks and could get you disqualified for the night.

Yes, hitting the brakes hard will cause the tires to skid and possibly get you into trouble. I just lightly press on the brake enough to slow down. If I need to slow down more than that then I lift off the gas.

AT our track, if they see smoke from your tires from braking, you're out even if the win light comes on. I just let off the throttle, but 4000lbs doesnt slow down very fast, broke out by .0001 and .005 a couple weeks ago.
