Who is making the best gear drives? Is the Edelbrock a good one?

Most any of the current 4 gear set ups... the ones with the " Dual Idler " type are simply copies of the old Pete Jackson gear drive... when the patent on the Pete Jackson ran out several companies jumped in to make their own copies of that drive and to undercut the price.

There are lots of opinion of these 4 gear type drives..... to me they were really designed to be easy to install.... that on that note they succeded.Past that they really are just annoying noise makers.

The two and three gear drives are superior to the four gear type set ups. They are far more accurate but much harder to install and are more expensive. They tend to be more for serious hard core street and race use who know and understand what it takes to use these drives.

BTW like all of Edelbrocks valve train componuts... Edelbrock does not produce these drives but repackages them... just like other companies who offer the four gear setups do....Some actually produce them but many dont.Edelbrock makes alot of their own products but some of them are repackaged.

had a pete jackson gear drive years ago in my el camino. It worked fine but the gear noise drove me crazy

I had an Erson 3 gear for a while. Man, the noise will make you insane.

you either love them or hate them. I ran a pete jackson noisey for years and I still love the sound. I could`nt hear it too much from inside with the dumped 2 chamber flows though. I think I would rather use the Erson style but they cost more as pointed out. I know a few people who have run a Dynagear dual idler style with no problems.

Milodon 3 gear set up has a 1/2" hole to look through for your timing mark's it is not easy to do but it aint impossible either makes all the noise you would want if you want to shut it up tap a hole in the top 1/8th inch pipe thread ( before) you install it. on my 355 I ran a oil drip from that little oil plug just above the timing cover. worked for me.

I've been running the Pete Jackson "noisy" gear drive, and I like it....then again, I can barely hear it :( I guess it all depends on how "noisy" the motor/car is to begin with :)
