The first part of door alignment is to remove the striker completely then close the door and verify the door is setting in the hole nice and square with good alignment at the rocker, quarter, and fender. Replace any worn hinge pins and bushings, make any hinge adjustments necessary to correct any alignment problems. When the door is aligned properly install the striker and adjust so the door latch doesn't drag on it and the depth is right holding the door in flush with the quarter panel. The striker is only there for holding the door in the closed position. The rubber bumpers and door weatherstrip provides the resistance necessary to keep the door from going in too far - if they are damaged or worn they may need replacement. Hope this made sense, Bob
