: Rust treatment(s) that I can paint over?
Flashy65 Nov 7th, 01, 9:47 AM Can anyone help to resolve this:
One of my wagons that I would like to repaint has a rust trail coming from the rolled over seams in the body where the gas flap opening is. It is totally impossible to get in the 1/4 panel to sandblast before primering. I know that after I paint this car that the rust in those seams will remain. I'm open to suggestions...

I've had very good luck with Corroless from Eastwood company. Its redish brown in color, can be brushed on or sprayed and you can paint over it. I've tried POR15 but never could get a top coat or finish coat to stick to it unless I top coated within 1 hour of applying the POR15. In my opinion, Corroless is much better. Its used on ships exposed to salt water. Hope this helps.

WayneK Nov 9th, 01, 6:49 AM Hi Rob
I also like the Core-less. but like to spray on rust conversion B-4 the Core-less
On your wagon can you gain some access from inside the wagon side panel area ?
I have also replaced the regular rattle can spray nozzle with one what accepts the long plastic extension tube to reach in tight areas and spray the rust converters and overcoat

Try Zero Rust it works great. You can get it in spray cans. Go to zero rust .com
m22chevy Nov 11th, 01, 7:12 AM Can Zero Rust be top coated with primer easily. Iv'e tried topcoating POR15 in the past and nothing seems to adhere very well. Sanding POR15 is like trying to sand porcelin!! Does zero rust sand any easier? would like to try this product in the driprail channels and around the windshield and back window channels. Also is the spray can ZR just as effective as the quart application? Thanks, Mike
NHRA1877 Nov 11th, 01, 4:05 PM I have been using stuff called "Extend Rust Treatment" my dad got it from a suplier at his work. Its made by loctite and as the add says
-Seals $ protects metal
-Dries to a tough protective primer coating
-Can be used with body fillers and fiberglass.
I htink this stuff is great. it is a great primer and destroys rust at the same time. The only catch is some surface rust must be preasent which makes your work go alot faster because you dunt have to remove all of the rust. I aplied this to my frame and found i had to weld something, tried to take it off with a grinder and a wire brush and it takes a while.I highly recomend this stuff
rlb Nov 12th, 01, 10:52 AM You can apply primer to Zero Rust after it has set up , sand with 220 grit to increase surface roughness, clean then primer. I don,t know if Zero Rust is available to you locally or not. It is an Oregon company, and I live in Washington state so it is available to me in stores (no freight). check out their web site at www.zerorust.com. (http://www.zerorust.com.)
WK Irish Nov 12th, 01, 12:43 PM Flashy:
You've received just about as many recommendations as there are products available, but let me offer some thoughts:
Compare the various products with the following in mind;
Single stage product in aerosol or bulk with No Isocyantes or lead (dangerous ingredients); 2000+ hour salt spray cabinet test results; easily topcoatable at your option; unlimited shelf life; ~1/2 the cost of the moisture cured urethanes; easily repairable if necessary later on; 10 different colors available; forgiving as to the amount of surface prep work = no sandblast requirement; high solids content and no special handling requirements make it a DIYer's favorite once they try it!
Zero Rust is actually manufactured in the midwest, but is available online as indicated. Make your comparisons and then decide...
