: Copies of OEM Build Sheets
ChuckB May 9th, 05, 11:31 PM I recently purchased a 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS5 which came with a build sheet. Unfortunately the sheet is in pretty bad condition and is soiled badly. Can I get an original copy of the build sheet from GM if I can provide the relavent information that is readable.
YenkoChevelle69 May 9th, 05, 11:52 PM No sir, not unless it is a Canadian built or sold Chevelle.

No, not if the car is US Built. No recoreds were kept and Build Sheets were not meant to be left in the cars anyway... sorry.

BlueSS454 May 10th, 05, 12:15 AM Even if it was built in Canda, you can't get a copy of the actual buildsheet. They give you a list of RPO's the car originally had and what dealer it was originally sold at. I got the packet from GM of Canada for my 69 Cutlass S last year.
mr70 May 10th, 05, 9:04 AM Agree with earlier replies.
I'm curious as to what Plant built your car,and where you found the Buildsheet.
Is it an Arlington Tx. built Chevelle,as they usually have the oil soaked buildsheets, due to being found under the sound deadner.
Is it an LS-5 or LS-6?
ChuckB May 10th, 05, 9:09 AM This particular car was built in the Arlington plant and was ordered by J & J Chevrolet in Gainesboro, Tennn. Pardon my ignorance but what are RPO's
fast67vellen2o May 10th, 05, 9:16 AM RPO = Regular Production Order

Very, very few "R" buildsheets in my experience. I once posted here if anyone had one and I got 0 responses. When you say under the sound deadner are you talking under the interior carpet?
Super70 May 10th, 05, 12:25 PM FWIW, I own a 71 Malibu built in Arlington, TX. I replaced the carpet & doors - no build sheet found (yet). I did not look under the sound deadener though.
docaudio May 10th, 05, 12:32 PM I found mine on top of the fuel tank...not sure if that's an El Camino trait or not.
mr70 May 10th, 05, 1:01 PM I'm not saying EVERY Arlington Tx. Built A-Body received a copy of the Buildsheet in it,but the Floor sound deadner is a place that I have found where most were inserted originally at the Factory..Especially under the drivers foot pad area, but don't rule out all the other areas that have been discussed on this BB in the past too.
Arlington Tx. seems to have a reputation for NOT installing Buildsheets, and I think this is an Urban myth of sorts & here's why:
*1st-not EVERY Vehicle built at all the other assembly plants got them either,so Arlington was no different in their ratio.
*2nd-Arlington Tx. Plant didn't start the GM A-Body production until January 1970.So less A-bodies to start with came from their, compared to other plants..
*3rd-Arlington favored the sound deadner more then other plants,so most owners simply overlook this one detail when looking for them and give up.
*4th-Arlington Used the same Buildsheet paper/format as other plants did,not a "Special" sheet.Sometimes they left the computer paper printer perforated holes on the sides of these.
Taking all of this into account...,ratio wise,I think Arlington Tx. built A-bodies got as much paper documentation as anyother A-body plant during 1970 production.
hallser May 10th, 05, 4:43 PM My first post here, although I have been "lurking" for some time!
FWIW, I have owned 2 Arlington-built chevelles, a '71 SS and a '72 SS. I found the '72 build sheet under the sound deadener on the driver's side in the brake pedal area, but I have not been able to find the build sheet for the '71 anywhere.
ChuckB May 10th, 05, 6:20 PM The car is a 1970 LS5. The build sheet says it came from the Arlington Plant but the Fischer tag has the following:
ST 70-13637 BT 27333 BDY
This number matches the order number. The Vehicle ID number does match the block code.
I was trying to get more info on the as-built transmission S/N and the rear end S/N to see if these match what is on the car because they are unreadable on the top of the build sheet.
I talked to one of the original owners today and he told me he found the build sheet in the trunk but I will follow up with him and probe some more.
69ssmike May 10th, 05, 8:58 PM Isn't a BT a Canadian built car????
mr70 May 10th, 05, 11:17 PM BT was used on the Cowl Tag to stand for Arlington Tx. Plant. from 1969-70.
BlueSS454 May 10th, 05, 11:47 PM RPO is Regular Production Option. Just a suggestion here, but have you tried looking up the dealer you mentioned the car was sold at? It may be a long shot but hey you never know. They may still be in existance and may still have some form of paperwork from it.
TripleWhiteSS454 May 11th, 05, 11:06 AM Once again, thanks for the invaluable info, Mr70. I'd heard the rumors about Arlington-built Chevelles and the chances of finding a build sheet. We're replacing the seat covers this Fall or early next Spring. I think I'll have the upholstery guy remove the carpet/padding while he's at it. Worth a look.
ChuckB, out of curiosity, what's the build date of your car on the cowl tag? Ours is the third week of February. Thru some math and the help of Mr70 and DaleMcIntosh, I think I've narrowed down that actual build date of the car to February 19th or 20th -- http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85583
