Just got my new hood hinges from Ground Up. At first I was confused since the box says that they are for a camaro but I put them up next to my current ones and it looks like it'll work. The only thing now is that they didn't come with Springs installed. I don't remember seeing that on the site but I guess I must have just missed it. The springs that are on my old hinges are still in good shape but I was wondering what the best way to remove them is without losing an eye. Any suggestions?

Getting if off is easy:) . Getting new ones back on is the tricky part. To get the spring off, use a homemade spring spreader. Stretch the spring by closing the hinge. Stick popsicle sticks between the coils, open it back up. The spring stays in place and can be removed from the hinge. Replace the hinges and repeat the process in reverse to put the existing springs back on.

Another option to put it back on is to attach one end of the spring to the hinge. Attach the other end to a bottle screen attached to a cable connected to a hook, attached to one of the "holes" on the underside of the hood, in line with the hinge. Tighten the screw and when it gets close, use something to move it over the hinge and hold it in place. Loosen the srcew until it comes to rest on the other end of the hinge.

It's a problem that takes some ingenuity.

The spring is strong and it's hard to find something to stretch it. Good luck, wear safety goggles, and be careful.

Do a search, you'll be surprised on how many ways there are to take the springs off and to install. I went thru it one time just for info, and some of the ways will make you laugh but I guess they work
