Good evening everyone,
Where's a good place to get some small pieces of metal for fabrication? I'm looking for some small sections of 1"x1" box and 1/2" round metal tube. A couple of feet would probably do the job and I'd like to get it locally. Can I get something like this at Lowe's or Home Depot? Any help as always is greatly appreciated!!

check your yellow pages, to see if you have any Metal salvage yards near by. ther ea good source.
also Sear Hardware use to carry steel in varries sizes,, but there going through arevamp of ther meterial and localy just went out of that line after the New Year.
another source is Central Tractor supply

home depo ... have some stuff, they might have it, i cant remember exactly what they have. also check if there is any metal recycle yards around, you would be suprised what you can find if they let you buy it back from them. last is McMaster-carr. but your best bet might be a machine shop, they always have extra material laying around.

My local steel supplier has a scrap bin that gets all the cut ends that they generate. Usually, it's sold by the pound or just given as a freebie along with another order. I always rummage through it when I stop in.

I second the Home Depot idea. My store has a good selection that includes the sizes you mentioned. As far as light schedule pipe, go to the electrical section of Home Depot and see what sizes and schedule (thickness) of conduit they have. I used conduit for my body stands (see below). It was very cheap and worked perfectly. This was non-galvanized of course. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

McMaster Carr has both. All it takes is a credit card and you'll have it the next day. The place is incredible.
