This is more of an "opinion" question.....just wanted to get some input from some fellow Chevelle owners.
I have a forest green 70 Malibu and I was thinking about having white deck stripes done on the hood and trunk. I like the look of the stripes but don't want it to look "tacky" so I thought I'd get some opinions on it. If anyone has any pics of stripes done on a flat hood I wouldn't mind taking a look........thanks!

the stripes were an option and available on the flat hoods as well. I have only seen 2 cars that had them. Both were faded original paint. It kinda looked okay, but since the paint was so faded it was hard to tell for sure. Both cars were mist green with white stripes.

I was thinking the same thing about getting stripes. The biggest broblem is getting them to be painted on without sacrificing the entire new paint job. How are the stripes done? Just wonderin'

I can well remember (yea, I'm old enough) seeing many Malibu's with stripes. They can be applied to the existing paint job, and I believe a few dealers did just that back in the old days. I personally like the stripes applied to the car, then clear coat shot over them, giving a nice smooth feel. Put em on if you want to, many Malibu's had em.

I painted white stripes on a forest green 71 a couple of years back. I think they look good, even in it aint a cowl hood.
The best way to add them is to wipe the hood down with wax and grease remover to remove all silicans and wax.
Get some 3m fine line tape and set up the stripes.
Get a maroon scotch brite pad and scuff the paint up real good where the stripes will be added. Be careful not to tear the tape up as this will lead to unpainted areas.
Paper the rest of the hood up and tape off really good. Overspray goes everywhere.
Air hose the hood off to get any dust off the pater, etc.
Then tack rag the area to be painted to remove lint.
Mix your paint and shoot.
When adding stripes to a older paint use a single stage paint. There will be less of a edge than if you put clear over it also. I usually use acrylic enamel.
After spraying the stripes let the paint become almpst dry, then slowly start to remove the tape. Pull the tape up vertically from the stripe. This will leave a much crisper line. Don't let the paint fully cure as the paint might chip off with the tape as you pull it off. Good luck. This is how I do all my graphics. RandyB...
