I have a 72 chevelle malibu with lap belts. I would like to install shoulder belts. Am I going to have to weld in a deluxe belt system to my roof or is there something under my headliner that I am not seeing that it attaches to?

I have a 71 with shoulder belts. I think they were required by then. I'd check under that headliner.

I'm pretty sure they put the mounts on all cars, but I have been wrong before. If the mount is there, you should be able to feel it under the headliner, located a few inches behind the door.

If you are looking for something in the after market Andover Rrestraints has a really nice retractable three point system for not a lot of money. We installed them in my sons 72 El Camino and they work great!

How did they mount. Any fabrication needed. Also if anyone is reading this...what would i feel or see under my headliner if I take my headliner down? what does the mount look like?

The mount is an ~3" or 4" long flat place with a threaded area in the center. Its pretty unmistakable. Its right along the edge.

Rat,

I just went out and took a few pics of my 71. If you look at the third pic, you can see that it looks like the mount is almost directly above the rear window crank.
