Anyone have any thoughts on installing trim and fender emblems after the car has been painted. It sure seems that there is a big chance of messing up a new paint job trying to open the bottom of the fenders to have access to install the backing nuts on the pins. Is it best to have the doors wide open while attempting to pull the lower part of the fenders out?

You might want to consider barrel nuts for reattaching the emblems, before trying to wrestle off the fenders without scratching the new paint. I used them on my SS fender emblems and they worked great. They push into the holes you have then the emblem pins press in and hold them snug. Any auto paint store would have them, just bring your emblems to match up the correct size. My .02

If you can't get your digits in there maybe you should attempt epoxying them into place? I hear 3M makes a good adhesive for trim etc...

Now I ain't the smartest guy around.. but I did what you said... loosened the lower panel, and fenderwell, crawled in the engine compartment and went at it on a freshly painted car. It wasn't easy, very tedious and I had the engine, etc out of the car. But I was able to attach them all in a couple of hours. I couldn't use the barrel nuts as the paint had filled the holes somewhat and I was afraid they might chip forcing the nut in with the studs. If you have sufficent slop in the holes I would definitely go the B-nuts. It will save you alot of work.
