I have a 90 acura integra I use for a secondary car when I am not driving my 65. I was driving it the other day and as I was approaching a stop the car died on me. I was coasting with the clutch in. No biggee, I turned it over and took off. I drove about 15 highway miles and got off on my exit. The car dies again. This time I couldn't get it started and I was freaking out because I was blocking up traffic in San Diego. Lots of it. I push it off to the side and start turning it over. It took several attempts but eventually it started. Seemed like there wasn't enough battery power or gas. It was stumbling but wouldn't start. I had the alternator replaced about two weeks ago. The battery looked old. I went home and pulled the battery and took it to Kragen. It needed to be replaced. I bought a new one and installed. The battery and alternator test fine. I drove back to work with no problems. One the way home from work, when I was coasting it died again!!!! Started right back up. I got it home and checked the plugs. They look fine. I couldn't get the fuel filter off. Man, those hoses are bolted on so tight. I drove it around locally and didn't have any problems last night. What do think it is? I don't want to get caught in traffic again. Do you think it is a fuel filter? The car has 168,000 miles on it. I run low octane cheapo gas. Maybe it is the injectors?

I would go with the fuel filter first.

Replace the fuel filter and run a couple bottles of injector cleaner threw the tank. Also, the hand held testers we use at checker/kragen/shucks can and have been wrong on me before, so I would have your alternator tested at a couple places like checker and autozone [they use different equipment]
Check the O2 sensors, and the MAF.

Funny how this "POS Foreign Crap " has run 168k miles :) Probably the original filter too !

That car should run another 100k easy. How is your ignition system? They do have a problem with distributors.

I agree with chris, check the distributor out.Pull the dist cap off,3 small bolts,be careful the internal coil button and spring is easily damaged. If you see ALOT of rust colored dust, that may be your problem.Intermittant problems can be frustrating to figure out.
With some economy rebuilt alternators they will only replace what is broken. They are cheap but can let you down in a short period of time. Better are the ones where everything is overhauled.
It is not uncommon for a fragged alternator to kill your battery in the process. Usually the failled battery shows up 2 weeks after the bad alternator is chucked.

Amen to what Bill said.
My "POS Foreign Crap" daily driver has in excess of 160k miles ('90 Accord) and has stranded me exactly once (at about 145k miles). The fuel filter has never been changed. It runs like a top.
My guess, as is others, is that it's ignition related, most likely the coil within the distributor.

Had the same problem with my '86 Accord "POS Foreign Crap" (only had a couple hundred thousand miles on it....). Turned out to be the fuel pump.
