Wondering what everyone here is using on master cylinders and the like to prevent rust. I was thinking POR 15 would be good, but not sure since brake fluid likes to take off paint.

Works good on the master and I haven't had any come off with the fluid either.

In a thread on another site, some guys had them powder coated and others POR-15 and other stuff. Most of them stated that the brake fluid eventually ate through them...

Great to hear someone has had luck with the POR-15, how long it's been on there?

I used Calyx manifold dressing (http://www.calyxmanifold.com/prod01.htm). It's easy to use, and doesn't really need much more prep work than a good wire brushing. It actually seems to work better on old rusty parts than new and clean ones. It's some kind of graphite paste, and it worked great on all cast iron parts I have tried it on.

Switch to silicone brake fluid and it wont take the paint off. Kevin

Thanks guys. This is my first build and I did not think about doing something to the master cylinder before I put it on. I need to dress up my engine bay to enter it in some shows. I have never entered a show. I need to dress the master cylinder and the steering rod and rag joint area. I replaced the upper shaft bolts, the ones that are splined. They have some surface rust, so I need to dress that up as well. How about that High-Temp. paint people use on brake cailpers and such?

I used por on mine. It lasted about an hour after a little fluid got spilled on it. There is nothing on earth that can resist brake fluid for any length of time, I'm convinced of that.

I sprayed my M/C with cast-iron gray then coated with clear POR-15. It is still sensitive to standard brake fluid, just be careful.

I think I used Eastwood Ti-Coat. I thought the color was wicked cool. Applied it about two years ago. Still looks like it did the day I painted it. Haven't spilled any brake fluid on it though.

Good old simple cast iron grey/cast blast works fine for me.

por 15 worked good on mine, spilled just a little brake fluid on it, not silicone either, baer doesn't recommend silicone fluid, and didn't lose any paint.
