67 SS ... tilt steering ... console ... 4spd
The steering column/wheel is making an annoying, squeaking sound, particularly when returning to center after a left turn ... I want to pull the steering wheel ( any secrets to getting it off ? ) and before I dive in, I was wondering if there are any friction points or bearings or even a way to lubricate it without taking it apart. If not, are there any words of caution before I begin. I am just tring to be careful and not compound my problem.... thanks in advance.... sdtsdt

Those early tilt colums can be a pain to work on if you have never had one apart before, but it's really not that difficult when you know what you're doing.
I have seen some reduced to a pile of parts because someone had started to fix something without knowing what they were doing and wound up making it worse.
There is definately a dissasembly/re-assembly order when servicing them and a few special tools are involved.
Most of the those tools can be fabricated or you can improvise.
The best advice that I can give you, short of telling you to have it rebuilt by some tilt steering column specialist, is to get yourself a copy of the factory service manual and look at what you're in store for before you unbolt anything.
It has all of the repair proceedures for the steering column laid out in it as well as lots of pictures and diagrams.
They are specific to each model year and can be found at most all the restoration suppliers or on eBay.
You will also need a steering wheel puller to get the steering wheel off.
Those can be purchased at most any quality auto parts store for a nominal fee and are well worth adding to your toolbox.
If you decide to jump in and tackle it yourself then I'm sure that we can help get you through it.
That's one of the benifits of this group.
Good luck!

Your problem is probably the turn signal cancel cam contact button. Just pull the steering wheel with a puller and lube the contact on the back of the cancel cam. ( It has slight spring tension). Use die-electric grease and just smear a light coat on the ring of the cancel cam. This should solve your problem. Chuck
