: 65 big block headers spark plug wires-help
68start May 5th, 05, 11:49 PM I've made 5 trips to the autoparts store, tried 3 different sets of plug wires and NOTHING seems to fit. My combo is a '65 396 headman headers #68190 coatedm, stock type HEI, and no AC. 1st tried some accel I had laying around to test fit. These had short 90's and was too close to header flanges aiming up. I could aim them down under headers, but only the pass side could really fit "somewhat" away from headers. Drivers side will be touching headers if going under. So I ordered some high end straight MSD ($112 ouch), too long and hit the stering column, also looked funny sticking out so far. So then I ordered the Taylor 90's hoping the boot would be a little longer giving me more room from the header flange aiming up. Nope, Still short and almost touching (1/8" if that).
My next option is the 135°, but my local Napa couldn't find any in there books (they got very busy while helping me hunt). They have been great at helping me, but they just don't know my application. I want the cleanest look and also black wires.
I've searched all over this sight, but nothing 65-bb-headmans.
Please help me, I'm getting sooooooo close. These little things are killing me.

68start May 6th, 05, 1:42 PM I found one thing out, my NGK plugs were actually shorter then some autolight plugs. By using the longer (or standard length) plugs, I now have just under 1/4" clearence from boot to header flange aiming UP. Is this closeness acceptable without burning boots? I hope to get my wires today if possible.
What about some type of adjustable angle boot. A guy here at work told be about them, but I could not find them while surfing the web at break.
Thanks,
mj
Jblack May 6th, 05, 2:10 PM MSD makes 8.5mm universal set that is multi angle. You'll have to cut them to fit. They come in red or black. They run around $95 (jegs summit etc.) The
68start May 6th, 05, 3:37 PM I must have missed that set of wires. I'm on the hunt again and will search for them.
Thanks,

MSD makes a set with both ends installed ,correct length and also has bendable ends.
68start May 6th, 05, 11:26 PM Thanks for the help. I found the MSD multi-angle wires and now have them on order for Monday. These should work.
Thanks.

Rowdy May 6th, 05, 11:44 PM If the MSD wires that you already have are the same as mine (straight boot with high heat sleeve), then you can bend anywhere past the sparkplug nipple, not quite to 90' though. I still have a tight fit on #5 cyl, especially when using Autolites (longest plug), I made a heat shield that's held in place by the header bolt above it. By the way, champion plugs are about 1/4" shorter than the autolites.
Good Luck

68start May 9th, 05, 11:54 PM Just an update. Today's new MSD multi-angle plug wires (p/n 31193) WORKED and looks nice. I have yet to cut to actual length for the cap, but they're on the plugs and bent nicely, evenly, and safely away from headers. Everything looks good, except the price $112 again (ouch). I could have gotten them cheaper, but not faster, so I'm okay with it. I also like to support our local parts store once and awhile. Now onto the next small detail.
THANKS for the advice from everyone.
