Yep that's right.
I started my o'l pick up and the starter kept running.
I waited a while and shut the engine off.

The starter kept spinning... I had to disconnect the positive cable to stop it.
I waited for a couple of minutes in dismay...
When I touched the cable to the battery it started spinning again.

What's the problem???
Shorted solenoid or funky starter motor?

i think either your solenoid is stuck in the engaged position or the battery cable on the starter is loose and fell against the "s" terminal on the solenoid.

Not uncommon for a solenoid disc to weld itself. You could pull it apart and sand the contact surfaces, but for $15 you can get a new one.

Happened to me once, on a brand new rebuilt starter. Wire in the solenoid was shorting out on the solenoid casing. Different starter = no more problem.

Happened to me once too.

Brand new solenoid and the little spring inside the solenoid's bakelite cover that moves the contact wheel back was missing. Installed a spring and it's been fine ever since.

I was in a pinch and on my way to work when it happened so I did what I could.

I checked the wires, all were tight and no wires were exposed.
I swapped starter motors leaving the same spring and solenoid because that's what I had on hand.So far so good.

Most of you seem to think it's the solenoid. That was my first guess.
I bought a solenoid and placed it in the truck so that I can change it on the fly if it does it again.Hope it isn't raining if it does.

I had to do a one mile walk from my truck to my house four times because I didn't grab the correct 11/32 socket for the small bolts on my first trip.
On the last trip to my truck I sprained my ankel.
It was fun.I missed the next three days of work.
That's last Wed-Fri.Still swollen and painfull.
