during resto on my '72 elky i changed out a bad passenger side door replacing it with a door from a 68. problem is the door lock button comes thru the '68 door in a completely different location than the '72 (i.e. won't line up with the hole in the top of the door panel). anyone ever run in to this and how did you fix it?

I don't think that the 68 and 72 doors are interchangeable...

The door panels I got from NPD for my 72 Elky had the lock hole located incorrectly, they swapped them out and the second set were correct. From what you're saying I must have got a set for the earlier Elky the first time.

I'm not sure if the sheet metal is the same or not.

Elcaminos are special!

The lock on a 68 door is in a different location than 69-72 doors. You can take the lock mechanism, meaning the rods and such from a 72 and put it on the 68 door. I just parted a 68 that had the opposite done to it. Once you have the 72 door panel on you will never know the difference. Good luck.

Another difference in the doors is the '70-72 doors have side-impact beams whereas the 69 and earlier's do not. The '68 doors have a different location for the door locks but I guess it can be changed over. The 1969 ones have it in the right location but lack the beam.
