I just stripped my car down to bare metal. It once had a vinyl top. Under the paint and bondo I found RUST. It seems to be previlent throughout the car. I have love for this car in particular. Getting a different project is out of the question.I have already planned on replacing rusted body panels and floor pans. My dilema is the roof. What do I do. I dont know of any companies that sell a roof for a 68 elcomino. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Don...

it would not be unheard of to cut a roof skin off od a good donar elky. someone on this site may even have one? some junkyards will cut it off and ship it to?

Don't you hate vinyl tops? I just got done using a stipper wheel on my drill they are black porous stiff sponge looking pads. They work great at getting the rust out, then use phosphoric acid to neutralise the remaining microscopic rust and seal it with a epoxy primer.

i saw an ad in a hemmings motor news the other day for a new process for body shops called "spray-welding?"they showed before and after pics of a car roof that rusted and looked like swiss cheese.after they applied the "spray-welding?"to the roof it looked fantastic!it filled in every problem area with metal.i don't have a clue who does this but it seems like a great alternative to replacing a roof.

I have thought about replacing with a donor roof. Not my favorite choice. It would be nice if a company sold a replacement roof. Spray welding sounds interesting, I have never heard of it. Thanks Don

It's really not that tough to replace a roof skin. It is actually easier than trying to patch a roof because the welds are all in areas where the metal is stronger due to bends. Especially on an Elky where you do not have nearly the welds that you do on a coupe. I bought the donor roof for my coupe for 35 bucks from the salvage yard.
