I was hoping to get some adice as to how I should proceed with my project.

I began stripping paint last summer a little at a time and had intended to get the car painted/body work done last Winter. Unfortunately, unexpected expenses came-up and I have had to put off getting the work done. My car has now been sitting in the garage for a year with zero paint on it and it is beginning to develop surface rust.

Should I do anything to try to clean it or can I just wait until next Spring to paint? My body guy says he isn't concerned too much with surface rust but I'm still a bit nervous as the rainy season is getting closer. Can anyone offer any advice? Should I send it up and have something sprayed on it before I have the body work done?

Thanks for your help.

I'm not a paint expert but I think maybe
epoxy primer like k200 would be a good idea..
This is the route I took after having mine
media blasted.

Buy a gallon or so of Ospho, using a respirator and protective clothing, use a sponge and a spray bottle to treat all the bare metal. It will keep until you are ready to take it to the shop. Also, keep 3-4 60W bulbs on in the garage 24/7 to keep the moisture down.

Zinc primer. Ask an expert, but my body guy in Newfoundland swears by it. Any car in Newfoundland Canada that wants to survive must be treated. Don't wait too long in any case.

Tim,

If the car is going to be kept in the garage,I'd use a product called RassOnil. I've had some bare metal treated with Rass O Nil for over a year now without any signs of surface rust. Keep in mind that its water soluble, so any treated parts need to be protected from water. You can find all kinds of information at autobodystore.com, just search the BB. One bottle is usually enough to treat an entire car. I forget the price, but its available through autobodystore.com.

Tim-

I am in the exact same position right now, I got a lot of mixed opinions about light surface rust, but I decided that I would rather spend an extra 30 bucks to be safe rather than sorry. I bought some metal conditioner to put on the areas where I am using body filler. I couldn't tell you the brand off hand, just a bottle of some green stuff. I could get the brand if you want, it's just at home. My understanding is that a self etching primer should take care of anything else that may be left over. Anybody else want to chime in, do I have this right?
