Need help .I just installed a new engine harness on my 66 and it has a HEI distributer. The old harness had a wire from the altenator tied into a wire at the harness where it plugs into back of fuse block . There is only 2 wires off the altenator 1 red off the screw terminal to an after market amp guage the other a white from a 2 plug connector to harness. Question is where is the proper place to connect the altenator wires?

An amp gauge in the alternator output is unusual, I would take it out. The gauge probably can't handle full alternator output anyway. Typically an amp gauge is install so that it monitors the current flow into or out of the battery. A volt gauge is a better choice.
The Large lug on the alternator should be wired directly to the horn relay. The #1 wire gets connected to the GEN light. The #2 connects to the alternator output or the horn relay for remote voltage sensing/regulation.This (http://www.chevelles.com/techref/ftecref14.html) tech reference should help.
