Has anyone here used the "Intergrip" clamps from Eastwood? These are clamps that hold sheetmetal for butt-welding (which I still think sounds painful http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif ). One thing I'm concerned about is that they make a gap of .040". Is this too wide if I'm using .025 MIG wire, or does the molten wire fill the gap? Any experience?

Thanks!

Are you maybe thinking of magnetic clamps? I can't find anything like the Intergrips on the Harbor Freight web site. They actually sit between the edges of the sheets, and use thumbscrews to tighten.

I also got mine from Harbor Freight (thumbscrew type clamp), but wound up not using them. It was too difficult for me (novice) to weld without burning through.

Huh... I guess I'll try the web site again. I'm also going to my local Harbor Freight this weekend, and I'll have a look there.

Thanks.

There was a place that made these clamps that had an ad in Hemmings. I can't find the ad now but I remember the clamps looked like they were much better quality.
