I can only assume you have made no other modifications to the factory wiring. On any Chevelle other than 72. You need to run an 8 ga wire with a 12 ga fusible link from the starter to the original J-block, f-link on the starter end. If it's a 72 no other mods are needed. I'm assuming you have a large cable running from the battery to the starter.

If this doesn't answer your question post back with additional details. If you're thinking you need to run a wire from the alternator to the battery, you don't.

Only thing I know about your car is the battery is in the trunk. Without more info I would say 8 gauge.

Edit: I see Elree posted while I was typing.

Only changes to factory wireing is ford style solinoid on firewall.Have suitable battery cable can I run alt wire from termanal on rad support to ford solinoid or does it have to go directly to battery in trunk. If solinoid whitch termanal. Bob

The alternator wire HAS TO GO to the terminal that shares the battery feed from the battery. This way it powers the accessories and charges the battery. The 8 ga recommendation is excellent.

If you have a wire running to the trunk from the starter post, then you need at least a number 2 ga. This wire size is good for up to 140 amps!
