We have '67 Corvette in the shop for a body restoration. The boss man used to specialize in Vette's quite some time ago. He now needs some help finding a product our local paint suppliers no longer carry.

He needs chopped fiberglass fibers in the FINE grade (they kinda remind me of the size or consistency of oatmeal...pretty small fibers). These are used for making fiberglass paste.

If anyone has any ideas or sources, please post.

I had thought about maybe marine/boating suppliers, but wasn't sure if they used that specific product.

No, this is just dry, finely chopped fiberglass that he mixes with resin to make a paste.

Don't know somewhere close to you, but TAP Plastics (http://tapplastics.com/) has it I believe. There is one here in my town and it is a great source for anything fiberglass or plastic.

Do you mean CabOSil? I used that before it is a thicksotropic filler that is lighter than air and mixed in will thicken without adverse affects. Another option is micro-spheres that are small glass bubbles to help reduce weight.

GL on your quest.. in a pinch to fill in inner panel seams or body tub fixes. I have cut,
(shreaded) cloth , to make the resin/glass slurry for seams and patch repairs.

Just thinking about it has me itching ALL OVER

You are correct that Cabosil (trade name) is a thixotrope, but it is not structural (like fiberglass would be), so it really wouldn't be a good choice here.
It is actually fumed silica (please do not ever breathe it! Silicosis of the lungs.....).
We use it in the adhesives, but it is also used in things like ketchup.
