Well, considering the fact that I used aircraft stripper, I think it would be a good measure to make sure that stuff is all off. So what do I do? I don't want to use water because it'll cause flash rust. Can I just wipe it down with a wet rag and dry quickly?
Then, what do I do? Just apply the metal conditioner immediately? I've heard of some putting laquer thinner? I want to get the upper hand on this project with whatever I need to do to prevent problems... and any other precautionary advice would be appriciated!

I wipe it down with laquer thinner and a scotchbrite pad, this helps get some of the leftover paint off and neutralize the stripper. Then i wash it with water and a heavy duty cleaner like castrol super clean or simple green.Rust shouldn't be a problem if you dry it right away with compressed air, your going to sand the bare metal anyway so that would take care of any flash rust, and then wipe it down with a metal conditioner.

Just go with acetone or lacquer thinner. I 'd go with your 1st intuition and keep the water away from it.
Next, DA sand the surface with 80 grit, then apply the metal etch. Read the directions and follow. Have some urethane primer to cover it all up after you're done. Simple as that. Keep it Huck! I can tell you're going to do a good job!
