Someone thought I might be able to get some ideas here so please don't stone me!

85 Z28 not starting
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drove the car in the garage, tore out the carpet and cleaned it, put it back in and now the car won't start. Full power (except for the hatch release) but I get absolutely nothing when I turn the key with the exception of the clicking of the fuel pump. I wasn't sure if it could be the ignition switch or starter so I replaced them anyways (didnt know their original condition, better safe than sorry). Both put me back at square one so I know its not those. I'm not sure where to find the neutral safety switch but the harness that plugs into the shifter (its an automatic) is nice and tight. I toned the connection between the starter and battery, starter and what I think is the safety switch, and one of two red wires and they were all fine. I found one post on another site that referenced fusible links could cause my issue but I'm not exactly sure where they are so its hard to tell. Anyone have this experience on their chevelles or any other car?

On a side note, I found a post that talked about how someones fusible link went out and not only did they have the same problem (nothing when ignition was in the start position) but some of their electrical stuff didnt work (heater, windows, etc..). My power hatch stopped working at the same time... Starting to sound more and more like a fusible link. I just don't want to dig into that because I'm going to have to take half the engine apart just to get behind it and look for the link.

Thanks!

Here is a pic of the wires coming off of the starter. The purple one goes to the S terminal and tones fine at the connector that plugs into the shifter.

Now that I look at this pic, one of the red wires does look a little burnt. I tugged on them a bit but didn't get much of a response. Then again, I didn't have much room to tug.

No stoning but never owned that late of a Camaro. All starters work pretty much the same. What happens when you short that large terminal on the solenoid (B+) to the smaller inner terminal (S). Use a screwdriver to short the terminals but don't hit ground. The starter should spin.

If I short it the starter defiantly spins (the new one is pretty damn strong too). The thing that is confusing me is that every wiring diagram I can find shows one wire running from the Batt terminal on the starter (other then the battery cable of course) going to the ignition switch. I have two wires. Not sure why, maybe for AC or something. I am going to drop the steering column again and try to see if I can tone or get a meter reading from the red wires coming off the starter to any of the wires in the ignition switch. If nothing tones or I get no voltage readings when trying to start it, I guess thats my problem.

I am pretty glad the new starter is strong, take a look at this flywheel.. eewww...
