I am interested in buying a lunati cam.
I want to put it into a mark IV 454 ci.. Heads are 049 castings, oval port, 2.19",1.88" Valves, bowl blended, mild porting, with a smaller (than usual), 110 cc chamber volume. Currently the car has stock flat top cast pistons at about (I figure) 8.5 to 1 compression. I may change to SpeedPro hypereutectic pistons .100 dome, at about 9.2:1 compression next year, but the car will be driven now with the stock pistons. Stock crank and rods, ARP bolts, Edelbrock RPM dual plane manifold, Holley 750 vacuum adv. carb (3310). TH400 trans. It has the stock converter but I am willing to go up to 2400 stall. Small tube headers. It's a 68 Chevelle, about 3700 lbs, 3.55 posi-12bolt rear. The car has power brakes no AC.
The car is a twice a week street driver ( A&W + sunday short cruise) during the spring ,summer and fall. Once a year at the dragstrip- I want to compete in a street car shoot out within a 12.5 sec max. 1/4 mile bracket type class (don't care if I win, but I am hoping for high 12 et's).

I want enough vacuum to work my power brakes and get the most performance I can and still have a car I can enjoy driving.

Here is what I think might work:

A. Lunati Cam part # 30218- 274/286, 225/235@.050, .540/.550 lift, 114 lobe separation.
B. Cam part # 30219- same as above lift and lobe separation but with more duration.
Both the above look good on Dyno Sim. simulation. I am hoping the 114 lobe separation will create vacuum.

C. Another cam of interest is in the Vodoo cam section for Big Block Chevys.
Item # 60203,cam profile 268/276, 227/233 @.050,.542/.554 lift, 110/106 LSA/ICL.

Will this be OK (vacuum) or is it too hot a cam for my application? What about the 60202 vodoo, will I be loosing a lot of performance? Are the cams- as valve noisy as the Comp XE268 and XE274 cams. Are the vodoos better choices than the #30218/19 cams?

Final Questions:
1. Does anyone know the timing events (ie degrees BTC/ABC, BBC/ATC intake/exhaust at .050) for the 60203 cam?
2. Any other cam suggestions?

PS sorry for so many questions- but I want to make the right choice.

The 60202 will work perfectly, the 60203 is a little large, and would like higher CR.
But here is the info, for both cams:

60202---IVO 1° BTDC IVC 38° ABDC EVO 48° BBDC EVC 1° BTDC at .050"

60203---IVO 7° BTDC IVC 40° ABDC EVO 52° BBDC EVC 1° ATDC at .050"

I like the VooDoos, they're mine, the older legacy cams are not.
The VooDoos are definitely quiter in valve train noise than the Xtreme Energy cams, and they do have a good exhaust sound to them.

I posted another message about this in "Engine" section, but these two cams may be what I am looking for. I have a pretty much stock 1970 LS6 with 1971 "open chamber" style heads. I am having a heck of a time passing our local emissions program. The emissions head technical guy suggested the culprit is the mechanical LS6 cam combined with the open chamber heads and resultant lower cr (about 9:1 to 9.5:1).

I like the lumpy mechanical cam, but I would also like to drive it, so I am prepared to make a change to hydraulic cam. My car is a stock 1970 coupe with a TH400 (stage 2 shift kit), aftermarket 2200 stall tq, factory 4:10posi. I installed roller rockers on it two years ago and a Holley Street Avenger 770cfm carb (hoping to reduce the unburned fuel pouring out the exhaust - which it did only midly). It is also bored .030 and I run 1 7/8 primary tube headers. I use it for cruising around town and, potentially, an annual track run.

Is it 60202 or 60203? Would these also help with the emissions issue? What changes would I have to make to install this cam other than the lifters and cam?

Thanks, in advance,

Steve

Caplin, you might want to check out the Ultradyne (now available from Lunati) cam I use 223/231 @ .050 525/.550 112 LSA

I've run low,low 13's and a 12.99 with this cam in my mild 454 using 2.56 gears and a 2400 stall
