I have installed the GM factory power windows and locks on a chevelle and am not sure on the routing of the harness on the front doors. Do they go on the outside or the inside of the door? What hole do they pass threw to get to if they are on the outside between the door panel and door. I have clips on the harness that go to holes. Funny had no questions on istallation untill now....

The harness runs along the inside of the door and passes through an opening in the front of the inner door structure between the door hinges. If your doors weren't originally equiiped with power locks and windows the opening may not be there or if you're lucky it's there and has a rubber plug in it. There is a rubber bellows or boot between the door and the hinge pillar on factory power window/lock equipped cars that the harness runs through. Don't just poke a hole through the plug and stuff the wires through, get the proper boot. Try to find an assembly manual or body service manual for your car, either one should show the proper routing.

I have the boots installed and all the hardware. I need to know where the switch wires go after it enters the door. Is it between the door panel and door are in the area where the window is. I have retainers that snap into the door to hold it out of the way but not sure how it is run to take up the slack.

Sorry, I am not trying to highjack the thread but I am adding power windows to our 70 Chevelle and have the same question. I have completed the routing of the harness in the dash, routed the wiring through the boots, and know where the switches go in the door panel, and where the connector goes into the motor, but do not know which of the dozens of holes do the two plastic clips, one for each group of wires (motor and switch) on each side goes. Any help or pictures would be great. I do not want to smash the wiring harness in the window as it comes down just because I did not do some homework before putting the door panes back on. Thanks ahead of time.

Glad to see there is someone else out there that is having the same problem as me with all the holes on the doors and not knowing which one gets the clips for the harness. Someone out there has to be able to help us Right?

Installed mine about a month ago. You will just have to take your time. put the plastic retaining clips were they will keep the harness out of the way of the regulator. Raise and lower the window slowly and check for clearence. If interference then move to another hole. You can use zip ties also.
The wires are inside to shell they do not run between the door panel and shell.
