Im getting ready to start my restoration of my 71, i am going to pull the body off the frame, my question is, are there certain steps i need to do, and what kind of bracings do i need to weld in to keep the car from flexing. Also, does anybody know what the body weighs minus the interior, doors, and deck lid. Im keeping the glass in for now. Thanks.

Look on the wagon section for posts by FO-FDYFO. Look at Petes site and see what he does for frame off work. He has some good ideas on what to improve on and other members myself included follow his lead. Hey he learned the hard way on things so you my learn what not to do.

I am doing a frame off on my 71SS at this time. I did not brace the body as my research indicated that unless the car is a convertable you do not need to. The best advise I can give after doing a frame off on my 70SS is to get a rotisserie. I can say it is now a pleasure to restor the velle, anybody that has done a restore knows the most dreaded task is the underbody and now I can do it with ease and not worry about laying on my back and having a 800lb body balancing on cement blocks or whatever you use falling while underneath it. You can always use it, then resell it after you are done. Good Luck
