: body mount cage nut

I know this is a frequent topic here, but I can't seem to find exactly what I need. My body mount cage nuts are shot. I've tried every local fastener store to no avail. On previous recommendations, I even called Hillco fasteners - they even say that THEY don't carry a 7/16" cage nut that gets spot welded to the body. If you look at year one's web site, they have exactly what I'm looking for G17NUT, but the $4.10 each and a minimum $8.50 shipping charge is hard to swallow. Does anyone have an alternative source with an actual real live part number?

I may do what someone else suggested in a previous thread and cut access holes... but think that will look junky in my nice soon-to-be-new trunk floor.

While I'm here, if anyone knows of a source for the pointy-tip body mount bolts, that would be appreciated too. The guy at Hillco didn't think it would be a big deal to use regular bolts, but it seems to me that fishing in the pointy bolts would make the body re-mounting job easier.

Any info anyone has will be greatly appreciated, graemlins/beers.gif

That's a reasonable idea, but at my billed labor rate, those nuts would cost me about $30 each. graemlins/clonk.gif

BTW- the guy at Hillco was very helpful - went ahead and ordered a handful of other fasteners I needed. Reasonable prices and no minimums to buy like a lot of other shops.

OPG and Northern Auto Parts as well as Ground Up have pages of bolts and fasteners to choose from.... ;)

I have had the same problem with body mount bolts. I opted to cut out a small square in the panel above all the cage nuts. I then cut some 2x2 square tube stock and inserted it into the square hole I cut trimming the panel to fit perfectly around the tube. I then welded the panel to the small portion of tube that sticks above the floor or trunk panel. you could make it flush also and just weld and gring it flat. I also welded in and around the bottom of the tube where it meets the part of the brace where the cage nut once was welded. I can now use any type of through bolt and nut to bolt on the body. using two ratchets I can easily remove or reattach the body with out any hassel from rusted or spinning cage nuts. i can take some pictures of them if you would like.

Umass - yeah I saw in a previous post where you did that trick. Very ingenious IMO and probably what I'll do for the mounts that are covered by carpet. For the rearmost two body mounts that are in the back of the trunk I really hate to have some kind of visible access panels... but may end up doing that. I've teetered back and forth the last two weeks, gotta cut bait soon.

You could use a 2inch holesaw to gain access and buy some plastic pop-in plugs if cosmetically it doesn't bother you. The plugs are available at any wrecking yard in a variety of sized for probably next to nothing$. Bob

Update... got the two cage nuts from the distinguished gentleman. graemlins/beers.gif Physically they are a bit smaller than the factory units, but appear to cover the body holes just fine. Punched some holes in the tabs and spot welded them in - lookin good!

In case anyone needs a part number - they are Ground Up BCN-716.

Here's a couple pics:

Thanks again for the help! :D
