I'd like to chrome plate the hood hinges on my 1970 Chevelle SS. Does anyone know of a plater that will do this? What would the approximate cost be?

I recently saw some chromed hinges on ebay, they went for about 250 dollars. Made me wonder how much it would cost to have it done. Id just look up in the yellow pages for a chromer, theres a place in wichita ks that chromes, i called there to get an estimate, they said 266 per bumper, i passed. ill just buy repros. So i guess in my rambling im trying to say probably would have to call someone and ask that does chroming

One of the things that makes hinges expensive to chrome is that they have to be disassembled--the rivets need to be taken out and replaced after the chroming process. The hinges cannot be chromed as an assembly. My brother inlaw had his chevy 2 hinges done years ago but the chrome shop assembled them with half ass bolts instead of rivits. They were very sloppy making a good hood fit difficult. If it were me I'd take the hinges apart and find suitable fasteners for reassembly before sending the pieces out for rechroming. then reassembly them myself. ;)

I think it's a bad idea. Unless you have the exact and I do mean exact replacement rivets, you will not be pleased with the end result. One of my customers had a set done for his 55 Chev and brought them to me to assemble with repo rivets. Holes had to be honed, shoulders on the rivets turned down on a lathe, peened correct and so forth. A major pain. Don't buy a set without seeing them for yourself. They are selling them for a reason.

Thanks for your responses! Your feedback has made me decide to stick with my stock hinges.
