I'm planning of having some rust repair done under my vinyl top. Can the top be reused or is it no good once it's been removed? If I need to get another one, does anyone know of a company that sells green vinyl tops? All I seem to find are black or white. Will I have to get a white one and dye it green? Or should I go black?

Once the vinyl top is removed, you will discover there is no way to save it. I remember Year One saying that they could get any factory color. You may need to order it in advance as it's probably a special order item.

YOU CAN pull up a vinyl top, repair rust then re-glue the top down. I have done it many times. I never tried to remove a complete top, but around the the rear window or a few inches of the sides or front is easy. Just heat it a bit (very little or the top will stretch) and pull it up. After the repair and paint, heat it, spray 3M super spray tack adheasive on BOTH surfaces, let it dry, then a light spray again and let that tack up and press it down.

MARTIN, anytime I have tried to lift up a vinyl top, the glue would still adhere to the fabric and it would seperate. I would have to pull so hard on the vinyl, it would stretch it out and distort it beyond using it again. Even if it was glued down again, the distortion in the vinyl did't look too good. The ones that I have done were only a few years old. The ones that I have done, it was fixing the rust that wasn't done correctly the first time and the tops wern't that old. Maybe the newer tops are of a different design? Any old top that needed to be removed wasn't worth saving anyway. Maybe an Eastcoast-Westcoast difference. ???

Just called Year One and they only sell BLACK, WHITE and Buckskin (what is this..?)
Too funny! hahaha... I gather it's a shade of tan/gray/yellow/white/brown/beige or some
other. Still lookin'... Need DARK GOLD myself. This seems to be a tough one....

PS
Maybe Buckskin is really DARK GOLD!

Get a white top and spray it with MARHYDE or some other kind of vinyl top dye. I've seen good results with the dye.

Jimmy, I didn't say it was easy http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif. I have done it many times, even on original 30 year old tops. I am not saying that I havn't had a few that were less than perfect after done, but it is possible. Most looked untouched.
