I like the two smaller round headlights on the '70 chevelles better than the single large headlights on my '71. Is it possible to just get a few parts from a '70 (maybe from OPG or one of those places) and get the dual front lights? Can I just replace the trim piece(s) and buckets, or do I need a new grille and possibly hood to match up?

If this belongs in "restoration", well, that's the new guy for ya.

You need, Fenders, fender extentions, grill, Radiator support and wiring harness, also a new rear bumper and wiring harness. I think thats all. Am I right fellas? Did I leave anything out?

And on the 7th day god said let there be an engine who's legendary brute force will never be matched, and loe the Chevrolet big block was born.

It's amazing, after all this time she still runs.

I'm not sure what the rear bumper has to do with the headlights - I like the round tail lights. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif The fenders were what I was worried about. I *suppose* that I should replace the fenders anyway - that'd be easier than fixing the little rust spots at the bottom rear...

Can I just cut access holes and holes for the adjuster screws in the radiator mount, or is the difference more involved than that?

If it's just the quad headlight look you're after, you can keep the 71 fenders. The 70 fender extensions will bolt right up to 'em.

You won't have any marker lights up front if you do that though, right? (Not change the fenders.)

Doh! Maybe I should just stop by the parts store and get some of those trailer lights. Drill a couple of holes and they'll bolt right up! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif j/k - that makes me sick to even think about...

The street rod guys have some neat marker lights, usually. Maybe I'll look into that kind of thing, or french something into the side, ro something. Sounds like it'd be easier to keep my giant eyes, though. I wanna adjust the high-beams and low-beams seperately, though. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

Couldn't you just get a 70 bumper too?

The '70 bumper will have the turn signal/parking lights but the front marker lights are mounted in the fender for this year. On '71 and '72 they the turn signal/parking lights serve as the marker light too as they can be seen from the side.

You will need a new core support, fender extensions, headlight bezels, a grille, fenders if you'd like the stock lower side marker lights, bumper, bumper filler panel, front turn signals/bezels and a new front light harness. I don't think the '70 front fender extensions bolt up to the '71 models, but that might only apply to El Camino's. You can keep your hood however. It might be more trouble than it's worth to do it.

Shawn, they sure do bolt up! And yes, you won't have the front side markers if you leave the 71 fenders on. So basically it's personal preference. Nobody (at least in my area) will bust your chops about the side markers come inspection time. Redoing the fenders seems like a lot to go through if cloud is only looking to get the quad headlights. He'll drop enough dough on the grill, bumper, extensions, etc.

If you change the front wiring harness, you will also need to change the wiring harness under your dash. They are different from 70-71. You could of course cut, and splice your existing harness headlight connectors to make it work.

I saw a car like this once. I'm sure it was a 70 with a 71/72 rear bumper. Made me chuckle. I do however prefer the front end look of a 70, and the rear end look of the 71/72. Together, it just isn't right. But that's my opinion.

I'm too young to remember what's actually right - given that I wasn't born until nearly the end of the G3 series (at least I'm older than my '77). Besides, you can't see the front end at the same time as the rear bumper lights anyway. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

My dad's got a '70 LS6 that he ordered new - he says the same thing about the rear lights just not being "right". Personally, I think it's just too expensive (for the time being). http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

having both a 70 and a 72 I agree the 70 has the nicer front style and 71-2 the nicer rear IMHO. The simplist way to do this, as has been mentioned, is to throw a 72 rear bumper, rear harness and valance (goes under the bumper and is different on the 71-2 than on a 70). If you go the other way you need a complete front clip, harness, and some modification of the dash harness. I think that only the inner fenders and the hood of course are the same 70 to 1-2. I not wild about the 70 rear bumper but it is ok and I like all three year front ends so I'd never do this swap myself unless I had a 70 with the tail wiped out and 1-2 with the front creamed, but what ever floats your boat. While your at it, I think a shaker hood scoop off a super chicken or hemi cuda would look cool on a 70-2 flat hood. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
