Hello everyone!

As some of you know, I work at a transmission shop. Currently working on a '97 Corvette with the T-56 (transaxle bolts directly to it). My customer is requesting that we replace the stock synchros with carbon fiber.. I have tried my normal vendors and supply lines and no one knows anything about this. I called the local GM dealership and that was pretty much like asking for a Whopper at the McDonalds drive-thru-dead air on the other end of the phone..

My customer was told by a Camaro owner that he put the carbon fiber syncs in his car and it shifts much better. Is my poor customer being snowed, or does such an animal exist? My customer also mentioned that his Camaro friend bought the synchros for a Viper application, and that they work in the GM B/W T-56's as well.

Does anyone have an idea where I can go to find these things? Any/all help is greatly appreciated!

Poolstuff@juno.com or call me directly (collect if you would like) at 281-586-8939.

I think your customer got only part of the info. If no one you have talked knows what your talking about, then it probaly does not exist.

Most likely, the camoro owner has an aftermarket shifter and topped it off with a 'carbon fiber' shifter knob. "Sure it shifts smoother...cannot you see the carbon fiber shifter."

I don't know the T-56 real well myself, but with a T-5, the first design used brass syncros while the "world class" unit used a composite syncro material. I'm sure it's a similar deal with the T-56's. Probably they used the composite pieces in the Viper unit, but don't quote me on that.

I would recommend you contact G-Force Transmissions (717) 202-8367

Check out this page http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/tran_gt-56.asp

Hope this helps.

I'd call D&D Performance, G-Force transmissions, or Craig Liberty @ Liberty Transmissions. Either of these outfits should be able to hook you up.

As he said, the Viper boxes use the upgraded carbon fiber syncros.

Also upgrade to the later updated and improved shift forks if it doesn't have them already.
