I've found a '70 for sale that is in good condition but needs new paint and some other TLC. It currently has a vinal top. If I were to repaint the car, I'd prefer to remove the vinal top and have the entire car painted.

Is it possible to simply remove the vinal top off of a hardtop and then repaint... or is the body different in some way underneath?

There is no difference except that the body work was not that good at the quarter seam and pillers. You would also have to grind the studs off on the sail panels. It can be done though. Do a search on this site. There are many views on this. A lot of people like to remove them. Personally I like them and am putting it back on my 71.
