Is it any kind of grinding needed to make a 4.25in crank fit in place of a 4.00in crank and work properly?(454ci to 489ci BB)

I had to grind just a tiny amount using stock rods(gen IV 2 bolt block). They didnt hit anywhere, but they were so close I went ahead and ground a little off the block to get a full .060. With 7/16 head cap screw type aftermarket rods, I would have had clearance. It was way, way, way easier than clearancing a 350 block for a 383.

My machine shop did clearance my block (75 truck block) before assembly. Whether or not it needed it I dont know, he just likes to clearance blocks first to save on test fitting I guess. Some need it some dont..

Part of it depends on whether or not it has factory clearance cast into the bottom of the bores and pan rails. I dropped a 4.25" into a 454 block with Eagle H-beam rods, didn't have to touch a thing. Most early 427 tall and short deck blocks don't have this clearance in the castings. HTH
