Trying to change fuel pump on 70 454. The fuel pump rod slid up and down when the pump was removed, but now is binding fast and will not budge. I tried to move it by bumping the ignition, but the rod is stuck and will not move. HELP!!!!

I had this happen to my with my 70 el camino. It turned out that when I put the fuel pump back in, the rod slid down and bent the rod ever so slightly that caused it to not go up or down. Try to remove the rod and replace it with a new one. I believe local auto parts stores have them for about $20.

Thanks Brian. How do I get it out? There is little or no room to grap with.

put a magnet to it and see if you can get it to go up.
we used to put heavy grease on them to make them stay up long enough to get the fuel pump in position.

Scott,
Its best to keep your questions in only one forum. I am going to close this one since you have the same subject going on in the engine forum.
