Epoxy is a catalyzed two component primer that offers excellent durability with good adhesion. It is a non soluable product after it is cured and therefore is suitible for use under some adhesives and all polyester fillers. Most epoxy primers do not sand very well and are not designed for use as a surfacer.

Self etch primer is a two component laquer base product that offers the ultimate in adhesion. It is forever soluable and contains acid which etches into the metal surface. Some self etch primers are also designed to be used as a one step surfacer meaning they offer good fill and sandability.

Gary, you can do a search and find a lot more information on these primers. They both have their applications.
