I have a 69 chevelle that needs a new paint job desperatly. Its in primer right now but its all bad with scratches in it. I started sanding it down today. I was using a vibrateing air sander with 80 grit. It was really takeing all the rust and the primer off well. But the where the scratches were in the primer the sander it took it down to bare metal. so now the door is in its original paint and theres bear metal spots all over the door. What should I do?

well if there is rust all over you might as well keep DA'in the panels till theres no more rust! Then reprime and paint http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif not really trouble your in.. just make sure your panels are straight, and clean.. Sounds like you have the time and equipment too strip it down with the sander.. However if you don't want too cut through too metal use a lighter grit and don't be so agressive.. Good Luck

vibrating air sander , the old rectangle type. WOW if in fact that what you have,
That tool was mainly good for scuffing down a large area B-4 Paint. The areas that you have bare metal need to have something to seal it from the air, If you do not want to
Finnish the body work and just want to preserve to door. Get your self a rattle can of EPOXY primer. not just the regular soundable primer and blast away at you bare metal. Most regular rattle can primers are pores and SUCK UP MOISTURE which = more rust.
