Ok... so got my new bushings pressed into the upper control arms- no sweat.

But the lowers are giving me even more troubles going back in than they did coming out.

Tried wedging a socket into the channel (which is how i got them outwithout deforming the arms), a chunk of 2x4- but everytime the channel starts sqeezing together without moving the bushing at all.

How do you press in the new lower control arm bushings and keep the "C" channels of the lower arms from crushing/bending???

Going to go to a machine shop at lunch and get a quote, but if its too much money i will give it another try on my friends press...

Thanks-
Ben

The factory tool uses two C shaped pieces of metal that are inserted into the inside of the arm to keep them from crunching. You can use 2 pieces of 1 1/2 inch or so angle iron cut to the width of the inside of the arms. Or, if you have access to a cut-off saw (every welding or machine shop has one), buy a pipe nipple with the ID larger than the bushing. Have it cut the proper length to fit inside the arm, and then sawn in half. It'll do the same thing. (you can use a sawzall but it takes longer) Place these pieces on both sides of the businng hole when pressing the bushings into the arm.

BTW - my friend used an air chiesel with a hammer head tool on it and a large socket to drive them into the arms. He put some oil on them first and drove them home over a larger socket resting on the concrete floor. Worked for him.

also putting the bushings in the freezer for a couple of hours and heating the arms with a heat guns helps a lot.
