I have my car in primer and my door hinges are in pieces (I'm rebuilding them). I wanted to assemble my hinges and hang my doors..but I wanted to paint the hinges before assembly. BUT I didn't want to buy my paint just yet since I'm not going to paint the car until the Spring. A couple of questions.
1.) Am planning to use NASON single stage black urethane. Will it keep over the winter if I go ahead and buy it and use it to paint my hinges for now?
2.) Are there alternative paints (spray cans even?) that would be okay for just the hinges for now and then paint over them again in the Spring when I do the car? (I'm always scared of paints reacting with one another.)
Thanks!

SSBums,
Why don't you just buy a 1/2 pint of the paint? This won't be very expensive, it will keep over the winter as long as you keep it indoors. You can then mix it in with the larger purchase later on if you wish.
Also when you paint the hinges be sure to protect the rollers from paint.

The paint will keep if you store it properly. As long as it is black, why not just buy a pint or quart for now, secure the smallest amount of catalyst at this time. When you do paint the balance of car buy fresh product for the major portion. Plan B, talk to your paint vendor, there are aerosol products that can work quite well for an area like the hinges. Your concerns about compatibility are valid. They should be able to advise you. Karl

Well, I checked into getting a quart, but the cost of the quart was about half what a gallon would have cost! (not that I was too surprised). Will they normally sell as little as a half-pint??? Makes sense...I just didn't think to ask.
And I did ask about aerosols and other alternatives for what I wanted to do, but didn't get much help. I hate it when I go some place and I know more about what I am buying than the people who sell it. Considering how much I know when it comes to paint, THAT is scary! :)
Oh, one other thing...since you mentioned protecting the rollers...it looks like the new roller and the shaft it is mounted to is cad plated or something. I assume that it's safe to leave it unpainted??? I just don't want it to start rusting on me after I go to all the effort of rebuilding. If I am supposed to paint them, then is any special prep of that surface required?

Clean & paint as best you can. The paint will wear off the center contact area at the check arm. If properly maintained, that area will be WELL lubricated at all times. Don't worry about rust on roller. There are paint vendors who know what they are talking about. Good luck finding one. Karl
