meaning my other toy is now an 87 Grand National
Now that the 70 SS454 has 3.31 gears,I'm anticipating some 12.89-12.99 timeslips now that the 2.56's are gone and I've done some carb tuning (previous best 12.99,average 13.20-13.30 with the old gears and NO carb tuning)
I'm thinking thats a reasonable expectation for a street/cruise night car.
With the 3.31's it's a blast and very, very fun to drive.
Turns on well. Those that have a big block and run mid to high 12's don't need me to explain :D

Now,my Grand National..
I'll be prowling the GN/turbo Buick related boards in search of obtaining my realistic goal of a 12.49 (the car has t-tops,don't want to go much further than that goal)
It all ready has a fresh motor that's .020 over, bigger cam,has cold air, and the best part,a chip that provides almost 20 lbs. of boost (stock is 15lbs. max)
I'll keep eveyone posted on both my Chevelle's new best and my GN's performance once I get going.
This GN is almost as fun as my Chevelle and I stress, almost as fun.
Nothing beats a big block Chevy

4speed - you are scaring me here, but at least you said "almost" as fun!

Chris that is one of my next two cars. It is either a GN or a Fox body with a vortech/N2O set-up. Something I can drive to the cruise spot without fear of a crazy lancer evolution driver running into the Chevelle. Now you need a T-76 turbo on it!

LOL...a 12.49 goal would be do-able with the Chevelle without touching the motor internally, but it probably needs 3.73's to get there.
I don't want steep gear..3.73's are reasonable,but I like my 3.31's.
My 235/60/14 or 26" stall slicks are the same as a 3.73/28" tall tire in drive, and the only benefit would a lower 1st gear and maybe a tenth.
I'd rather have the 3.31's and lose ET or have 3.31's and a 2.75 1st gear TH400
I'll just see what basic carb tuning and the 3.31 install nets me.
Remember, this is not a race car.
Just an 'ole 70 Chevelle Super Sport that runs high 12's and it knows it.
I like the idea of knowing what my musclecar runs.
And in my book,mid-high 12's fun.
And I respect and appreciate anyone thats faster or slower.
Its all about having fun in my book.
The GN is different but feels torquey just the same.
Burns tires up and get sideways on a 1-2 upshift like you read about
Perceived seat of the pants performance in these turbo Buicks is great

a 231 at 14lbs boost essentially is a 454, or a 462. I've spent a bunch of time working on and driving those things, I always thought they were great. good gas mileage 231 seamlessly turns into a 454 as soon as you nail it.

I've got an 87 GN 200R4 in my Chevelle, best factory tranny ever, IMO.

I have owned 3 GNs there is absolutely nothing like them. They just get expensive as heck about the mid 10 second range. I will own another one soon. But i will go 8s with this bbc for less money.

Just ask Billy for what you need to go XX.XX fast. He can set you up with what you need.

The next fun car I buy....if it's not for the wife (as she wants a '69 Camaro).....will be a Grand National. Darth Vader with a turbo. :D

Chris, I'll give ya $3000 for that car. I know you didn't pay that much for it. :p
