I have repaired a busted up grill for a 69 chevelle using anouther grille for replacement fins. It turned out pretty good, but now i have to finish it. I painted the whole thing semi gloss black and put on the stainless trim. But i need to know what color to make the tips of the fins. I like it all black and i noticed the grille extensions have silver painted tips on the fins....
so anyway, what color should i do it, or does anyone have some closeups of their grille SS grille?
For a '69 SS the fins are entirely semi-gloss or satin black, including the tips. The only portions that are Argent (silver) are the upper, lower, and middle areas where the trim goes.

Yes. To clarify the Argent areas where the trim goes, they include the horizontal surfaces that start at the trim and go toward the rear but stop at the fins. All vertical and horizontal fins are black, including those fin shapes in the top middle and bottom sections.

are you sure the tips aren't grey? they are on mine. i'm in the process of replacing the chrome on the grille (anodized alum.) and pulled the grille. the catalogs i've looked at appear to have grey tips? if not the SS, what models had the grey tips?

From what I know usually the Malibu grills have the gray tips and SS grill fins are all black. They used the same grill on the SS as the Malibu. The only difference is the black out treatment.

None of the 69 grills had grey. They were all silver. I would guess what your looking at is 30 years of oxidation which dulls the silver and makes it appear grey.
